Scratchboard

Tools include just about anything that will remove the ink without gouging the surface.

The original drawing was transferred to the board with white chalk; I started the work with a fine line tool and I used steel wool on a stick to clean out the background white space.






As you increase the contrast, the darker lines and spaces stand out and push themselves visually forward.

While I was working, there was a great temptation to leave those big black spaces!
The finished piece, "..he loved me not."
